About us
What We Do
Oasis Project is a substance misuse service for women in Brighton & Hove and East Sussex. We also provide services for children who have been affected by familial substance misuse. Operating for over 20 years, our charity exists to support and empower women who have difficulties with drink or drugs to make positive changes in their lives.
Why Women?
The reason our services are predominately women-only is that women remain outnumbered 3-1 in treatment services and there are well documented links between sexual and domestic violence and substance misuse meaning mixed gender groups do not work well. Women have a better chance of overcoming addiction and maintaining recovery within an all women environment. We directly support over 750 women annually to address their drug and alcohol misuse with the help of structured groups and 1:1 support.
That is not to say that men are not vulnerable too. We recognise this and have recently begun to deliver a specific service for men (from a separate centre), drawing on our wealth of experience delivering a gender-focused model.
Children and Young People
We also work with over 250 children each year who have been affected by a family member's drug or alcohol use. We offer 1:1 therapy as well as a crèche, which gives children a safe space to play and learn while their parents are accessing treatment. We also run outdoor holiday arts activities during the school holidays.
East Sussex
With bases in Eastbourne and Hastings, we are able to extend our services for women and children into East Sussex and are seeking to expand the range of services all the whilwe, in order to meet need.
